Christmas and the Holiday Season When You’re Battling Food Issues

Like the midnight-clear the season to be jolly dawns once more.

Christmas/the holiday season is a happy and familial theme for many - obviously not everyone celebrates  - but I’ve always been struck by dates dedicated to spreading happiness and joy.

I understand our need to celebrate as an essential building block of our human-ness. It doesn’t matter from where we source our inspiration - nature, religion or both - but while we’re all high on the octane fuel of making merry - what emotional states are we supposed to reach during the rest of the year?

I say this a little tongue in cheek but such emphasis also highlights our common lack of expectation. Again, not all of us, but wouldn’t it be great if this was our daily charter with the much needed systems already in place to support our well-being and to celebrate life.

Being better makes you a better person. The better you feel, the better you function and the more you’re able to help yourself and others.

I always wanted to be that person who helped someone out. It was one of my motivators to get well and recover.

What can I give you? How can I help you? What do you need from me? There’s immense freedom when you can ask those questions, mean it and follow through.

Christmas can be really tough if you’re battling food issues.

If you are, I hope you have someone who can take care of you. If you don’t, can you practice being that someone to yourself?

I heard a discussion on the radio about the vulnerability of the forest floor from extreme weather conditions when trees become diseased and their skeletal branches, febrile against the sky, offer no protection or shelter.

What the forest floor needs, to survive and thrive, is dappled sunlight. Pools of soft light, filtered through a vibrant leaf canopy, before spooling gently onto a particular spot.

Have a very happy Christmas and holiday season.
