Hi! I’m Jemma, Founder of Love This Food Thing

I suffered with eating disorders for over 20 years.

Now fully recovered - with the luxury of hindsight - my approach to eating disorder recovery has evolved.

EATING DISORDERS
ARE PHYSICAL MANIFESTATIONS OF INTERNAL DISTRESS.

*With notable exceptions (those with ARFID, or some neurodivergent individuals e.g. autism and ADHD).

EVERYONE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO RECOVER - AND YES, THAT MEANS YOU!

I always say recovery is not for the faint- hearted. What do I mean by this?

Eating Disorders ultimately break our spirit. Sometimes it feels impossible to step out of the eating disorder zone because we feel powerless, as if “something stronger” has taken over.

Letting go of our eating disorder identity feels scary.

Who will we be without them? How will we cope?

Fundamentally, our desire to recover and overcome our challenges will win the day.

Combined with commitment, courage and love… and support.

How much do you want to recover?

Our experiences, stories and feelings will differ despite shared similarities and themes. There will be benefits and payoffs from your Eating Disorder that you’ll need to find, “in here” rather than, “out there.”

"Jemma and Love This Food Thing has been the most incredible find for me as someone who has had a complex relationship with food for over 20 years. Jemma looks beyond the eating disorder labels that are attached to people through diagnosis and instead explores the person and the very individual life journey they have experienced and how it contributes to their relationship with food and themselves". - Prue

EATING DISORDERS CAN BE USED AS POWERFUL TOOLS FOR HEALING.

Whoa! Hold on a minute there’s nothing healing about eating disorders, you say, they’re a nightmare.

You’re right, they are, I agree but recovery means diving pretty deep so we can explore our behaviours and defences and get to know who we are.

That’s really quite something!

Imagine what it would be like to be free of your eating disorders/behaviours?

Eating Disorders have little to do with food (see above) and everything to do with how we feel and manage our selves in the world.

By abusing our relationship with food and our body we are questioning the nature of our existence. Food, by definition, is life we live in our bodies and in order to survive and thrive we need harmony with both.

The external narrative might be about your physicality but the internal narrative will be about feelings and emotions.

Life is a journey of emotion.
